Panic and Paranoia: Imaging, the Law & the Public Domain

Never before has the act of taking photographs or shooting video been so fraught with unresolved ethical, moral and legal issues. How have recent political events, advances in technology and developments in the law changed what photographers and filmmakers can and can’t do? When more and more is possible, what is and isn’t permissible? How are the previously distinct categories of author and subject merging, or coming into conflict with each other? Nigel Lendon and Martyn Jolly have brought together a range of speakers from international universities, the Arts Law Centre of Australia, the ANU, and the National Library, to address these issues from a variety of perspectives, which will include practical up to date information, actual case studies, and theoretical speculation.

Venue: ANU School of Art Lecture Theatre

Date:23 & 24 August 2006
