Arts Law submission on the Greens Fair Go for Fair Use Bill

Arts Law recently provided a submission to the Senate Standing Committees on Environment and Communications on the Copyright Legislation Amendment (Fair Go for Fair Use) Bill 2013. 

The Bill has been introduced into the Senate by the Greens and, most importantly for Arts Law and our clients, calls for the insertion of a US-style fair use exception to copyright infringement in the Copyright Act 1968.  Similarly to our submissions to the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) inquiry into Copyright in the Digital Economy earlier this year, Arts Law argues against the expansion of exceptions (such as fair use) to copyright infringement , with the submission focusing on the economic impact to artists and the detriment to their moral rights.
