The Arts Law Centre of Australia receives Major Funding from Australia Council for the Arts

The Arts Law Centre of Australia (Arts Law) is pleased to announce triennial funding from the Australia Council for 2014-16. In 2014 Arts Law will also receive an additional $200,000 through the Australia Council’s Unfunded Excellence program. Arts Law’s President the Hon Justice Margaret Beazley AO welcomes this announcement, saying “it means that Arts Law will be able to help more Australian artists address the increasingly complex legal issues they face today”.

The funding will enable Arts Law deliver new initiatives to increase their capacity to assist Australia’s artists and creative organisations. It will allow Arts Law to rebuild their website to address disability issues and make it responsive to different platforms.

Arts Law will also create new professional development packages for tertiary institutions and webinars for the arts community.

The Unfunded Excellence grant will also assist in the delivery of Arts Law’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service, ‘Artists in the Black’ (AITB), in particular the mentoring and outreach aspects of this service. “Arts Law aims to deliver excellence in the services we provide to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander arts community”, says Executive Director of Arts Law Robyn Ayres, “to do this it is necessary to regularly visit communities across Australia to develop the legal skills and knowledge in these communities. The Australia Council funding boost will ensure that we can provide these aspects of the service as well as allow us to research alternate delivery methods to ensure funds are used in the most efficient and productive way. “

These initiatives will be carried out in conjunction with the ongoing development of Arts Law’s day to day delivery of specialised legal and business advice and referral services, professional development resources and advocacy for artists and arts organisations.
