Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act Amendment Bill 2012 on track

On 26 September, The Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act Amendment Bill 2012 was introduced by the Hon. Peter Collier into the Western Australian Legislative Council. The bill proposes to repeal Part IV of the Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Act 1972. The effect of the proposed repeal is to achieve parity at law for Aboriginal people who die intestate by bringing them under the same scheme of distributing intestate estates as non-Aboriginal people.

With the introduction of the bill, a phase of briefings  of Parliamentarians has been scheduled. These important meetings are underway and on track with the bills indicative timetable.
