2017 National NAIDOC Poster Competition

9th February 2017

This month Arts Law has reviewed the terms and conditions of the 2017 National NAIDOC Poster Competition.

As it is currently drafted, we would not give these terms and conditions a high rating. We have a number of concerns. In particular, artists should be aware that if they win, the licence they are required to give the organiser is very wide - it is forever, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty free and unlimited in purpose. The winner must also agree to the use of their artwork without being named. Artists need to seriously consider all of this in light of the $5000 prize.

We have raised our concerns with the competition organiser who has indicated that given the upcoming deadline, the timing makes it difficult to rewrite the terms and conditions, but has assured us that the issue is being taken seriously and will be addressed prior to the NAIDOC 2018 poster competition being announced. Arts Law will monitor this issue, and endeavour to review and rate the 2018 competition.

If an artist wishes to obtain advice from us about this competition you can log a query here. Entries close for this competition at 5pm AEST Monday 06 March 2017.
