Dreamtime at the ‘G guernsey design competition extra info

In February, Arts Law reviewed the terms of the Richmond Football Club's guernsey design competition for the Dreamtime at the 'G clash with Essendon. We have since received further information from the Club that make the terms of the competition fairer for artists.

The competition itself provides a fantastic opportunity for Indigenous artists to design a guernsey for the Club, with the winning artist having their design worn by the Club players during the Dreamtime at the 'G match.  In addition, as stated in the competition terms and conditions, the Club generously directs all commission on sales of the Dreamtime guernsey to supporting the Club's Indigenous programs.

Arts Law questioned the fact there was no mention of artist attribution or moral rights in the competition terms and conditions.  The Club has now confirmed that the winning artist is acknowledged via the Club's communications channels and at the Dreamtime President's Function.  We have suggested the Club consider including this positive affirmation of attribution of the artist in next year's competition terms and conditions, and hope they will!
