The Word, the Writer and the Law: Playing with the facts

Monday 18 March 2013, 6:30PM – 7:30PM

The Wheeler Centre, 176 Little Lonsdale St, Melbourne

Join the Arts Law Centre’s Deputy Director Delwyn Everard, barrister Stephen Rebikoff and lawyer Serena Armstrong as they debate the legal issues of writing about real people and real events. If it’s all true, is there any problem? When is using a true story as the basis for fiction dangerous? What are the risks in writing memoirs, biographies and non-fiction if not everything you say is complimentary? What’s the difference between fiction and ‘faction’ and why does it matter? Engage in a conversation with three lawyers to try and navigate the blurred boundaries between freedom of creative expression, defamation, opinion  and art.
