Arts Law offers free 20-minute legal advice sessions for individual artists who are below our means test requirements.

If you need a lawyer to look over any documents or you fall outside of our means test, you will need to subscribe to Arts Law to get advice.

Subscription for individual artists cost $200.

Organisations or groups, like bands or partnerships, will also need to subscribe.

The Artists in the Black program is a service of Arts Law that provides Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, arts organisations and businesses with legal advice, resources and professional development opportunities.

We provide all these services in a culturally safe and appropriate way.

Artists, musicians, performers, writers, and other creative practitioners are eligible to receive advice from Arts Law about issues relating to their artistic practice.

Arts organisations of all kinds are also eligible for advice from Arts Law.

If your problem falls outside of our area of expertise or does not relate to your arts practice we will help put you in contact with an organisation or legal service that is better placed to help you.

There are some limited instances where we may not be able to give you advice due to a conflict of interest. If this is the case we will do our best to put you in touch with another organisation or legal service that can help you.

You should receive a follow up email or phone call within 5 working days of submitting your details.

One of our team will be in touch to work out how we can best help you and book you in for an advice session with a lawyer.

You should receive your advice over the phone within 7-14 days.

If you need a lawyer to review a document (documents could be a contract, emails, manuscript, video or recording etc) you should receive your advice within 10-25 days from receiving all your information.

All our advice sessions are booked in the order we receive your information.

Arts Law does our best to deliver our services as quickly as possible. If you need advice sooner than our turn around times allow please contact us.

We will try our best to put you in touch with another organisation or legal service that can help you urgently.

Please be aware that some services we can refer you to will have their own fees.

All our legal advice is delivered over the phone in a private one-on-one call with either an Arts Law lawyer or with a pro bono lawyer we have a relationship with.

You’ll be able to ask questions about your situation, the law and get quality professional advice.

You can also request for other individuals to be present such as a translator or support person.

Yes. Arts Law respects your rights to privacy and confidentiality.

All information you provide to Arts Law will be kept confidential unless you give us permission to disclose information about you to a third party or we have a legal obligation to do so.
