Country to Couture. Arts Law at Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair.

It’s quite a week in Darwin this week, starting with the Country to Couture fashion parades on Tuesday evening (8 August 2023).  Arts Law was there to see the shows and volunteer our services.  There were many runway shows including collaborations with our beloved art centre clients such as Nagula Jarndu, Babbarra, Yarrabah, Injalak, Yingaa-Barni, Anindilyakwa, Ardi’ol Ikunji, Iltja Ntjarra, Tiwi Designs, Ikunji, Yarrenyty Arltere and Juluwarlu.  Some are new to the fashion worlds and others are of long standing.

This is the 8th year of Country to Couture and some people are saying it’s the best yet this against the backdrop of the Darwin Festival and a balmy 32 degrees most days.

Wednesday evening also saw the winners of the 2023 National Indigenous Fashion Awards announced at an outdoor ceremony at the Deckchair Cinema in Darwin. You can read more about the six winners here.

Arts Law is continuing to work with Indigenous Fashion Projects to develop a series of best practice resources for people who wish to engage in the Indigenous fashion space, from all perspectives, for artists and for fashion houses.

Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair is on from Thursday to Sunday and Arts Law will have a stall there.  So please come and say hello.

Saturday night is another highlight with the National Indigenous Music Awards held in the Amphitheatre in the Botanical Gardens.
