Reflections

By Jo-Anne Driessens,  Artists in the Black Coordinator

Jo-Anne Driessens wrapped her time with Arts Law on 26 June 2025, having been part of the team for three years and now leaving a number of legacies, including the completion of the recent Download Digital ICIPworkshops series, funded by Creative Australia.

‘My learnings as Artists in the Black Coordinator has been an incredibly rewarding role, being able to connect with artists residing across all of the remote, regional and urban communities on a national scale and it wasn’t a role I took on lightly. In addition, the learnings I was exposed to within the international arena and alongside ICIP, IP specialist colleagues was also a unique experience that I will continue to follow and learn from, plus continue to share the latest resources and findings across the many communities that I will continue to cross paths with.’

Embarking into a new chapter, Jo-Anne will be focusing on her recent Powerhouse commission “Right of Reply’ the inaugural First Nation photography commission. Armed with an ether of knowledge including a better understanding of ICIP principles to assist with the traditional knowledge components embedded into her new work. The path ahead will be about slowing down with the photographic processes and allowing more time on country to gather, research and preserve as much knowledge as possible during the process.
