Help protect the people behind Australia’s creative work, support the rule of law for artists
The arts remains one of the most economically vulnerable sectors in Australia. And yet, time and again, the arts community is among the first to step forward in support of others – whether through fundraising, advocacy, or bringing people together during times of need.
However, many artists themselves are navigating complex legal issues without access to affordable advice, leaving their work, income and rights exposed.
In this last year alone we have suported more than 2,500 artists. Some examples include:
- Assisted a First Nations arts organisation producing TikTok and YouTube content for language revitalisation, providing guidance on contractor agreements, performer releases, intellectual property ownership, and cultural considerations.
- Helped a painter and their collaborator reach a resolution to the moral rights infringement of their painting installed in a public building.
- Assisted a recording artist preparing to release multiple songs involving producers and beatmakers, helping them understand copyright ownership, licensing arrangements, and collaborator agreements.
This end of financial year, you can help ensure artists continue to access legal suport to help protect their work and their livelihood.
Every donation – no matter the size – makes a meaningful difference.
Donations over $1,000 can be recognised as an Arts Law Ally.
